About The Artist
Syndi White is a lifelong artist whose paintings reflect a deep reverence for the natural beauty of New England.
Her artistic journey began in high school, where her talent was recognized with an invitation to attend advanced courses for high school students at the Massachusetts College of Art. Though she was drawn to majoring in art during her college years at UMass Amherst, family pressures led her to pursue a more conventional path. Despite this, Syndi continued to paint and was regularly commissioned for murals and other creative work throughout her college years.
Following graduation, Syndi devoted herself to a meaningful career working with children and adults with disabilities. It wasn’t until after a difficult divorce that she returned wholeheartedly to painting, rediscovering the solace and joy it had always offered. Through her work, she seeks to express the emotional resonance and quiet grandeur of the landscapes that have shaped her life.
Having lived in New England her entire life—first in Massachusetts, then among the peaks of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, and now in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom—Syndi draws inspiration from the places she knows intimately. Her landscapes reflect her connection to coastal shores, rugged mountains, serene lakes, and pastoral hillsides. She is particularly captivated by the transient beauty of light—sunrises and sunsets, in particular—and how it transforms land, water, and sky.
Artist Statement
My work is influenced by the romantic vision of the Hudson River School painters, many of whom painted in the very regions I call home, as well as the bold, impressionistic approach of the Canadian Group of Seven. Like these artists, I work both en plein air and in the studio, capturing not only the likeness of a place, but also its spirit. My hope is that these paintings invite viewers to pause, reflect, and feel the presence of beauty in the natural world.
